MOO-Cows

About this site

I've been MOOing since 1992, which I think is nearly as long as MOO has been publically available. I started my own MOO in 1993, and today Harper's Tale MOO is one of the biggest MOOs around. I got to enjoy the early days of the first MOO-cows mailing list, when we talked about programming MOO, server improvements, and the occasional stupid flamewar. Pavel Curtis was still the MOO server god. People published serious research articles about MOO - its social implications, its use for education and collaboration, and more. Life (at least as far as MOO went) was good.

Then Pavel left to go build Placeware. MOO was turned over to a new maintainer, but the new guy didn't have the love for it that Pavel did. Interest in MOO waned; sites that had formerly been rich with articles and info about MOO vanished.

To preserve as many of the (remaining) MOO articles and information as possible, I'm archiving them here (provided I can get permission from the authors to do so). It's my hope and intent that this will become a central, permanent site for info about all things MOO. I don't know what the future holds for the MOO server itself, but MOO is far from dead, and I'd like to do all I can to keep it alive.
